Downtown Naples is the easiest place in the city to fall in love with riding. Wide, tree-lined streets, a public beach access at the end of almost every avenue, and the shops and restaurants of 5th Avenue South and Third Street South, all within a few miles of each other. Pick up the bike wherever you're staying and pedal out from there. You don't need a fixed route, just a loose direction and a few stops in mind.

What it's like to ride here

Downtown Naples rewards slow riding. The streets are wide, the shade is real, and you'll spend half your time pulling over for a photo. 5th Avenue South is the main street, lined with boutiques, galleries, and restaurants with sidewalk seating. Third Street South, a few blocks toward the Gulf, is the original Old Naples shopping district.

The magic is how everything connects. From anywhere in Old Naples you're a few minutes from a beach end, a coffee, and a quiet residential street lined with palms and historic cottages. Gulf Shore Boulevard runs along the beach side of the grid with a public beach access at the end of almost every avenue, so heading west always gets you to the water.

The Naples Pier is being rebuilt

The Naples Pier was badly damaged by Hurricane Ian in 2022. The City of Naples broke ground on a full rebuild in January 2026, keeping the pier's historic length of about 1,000 feet, and is targeting a reopening around mid-2027. Until then the pier is closed, 12th Avenue South is closed west of Gulf Shore Boulevard, and only part of the pier parking lot is open. During construction, the city points beachgoers to the restrooms and beach access at the Broad Avenue South and 13th Avenue South beach ends.

One rule won't change when it reopens: bicycles, including e-bikes, are not allowed on the pier. Lock up nearby and walk out.

Best time to ride

Naples weather is forgiving, but the heat is real from June through September. Plan downtown rides for early morning or the hour before sunset. You'll get the best light, calmer streets, and a breeze off the Gulf.

December through April is peak season: warm but not hot, low humidity, and the busiest streets of the year. Summer afternoons often bring thunderstorms that roll in fast off the Gulf and pass just as quickly, so plan around them.

Insider tips

For a classic sunset, ride to the 8th Avenue South beach end, known locally as Wedding Beach, or any of the beach ends along Gulf Shore Boulevard South. Lock up at the street end and walk onto the sand.

On a hot day, Cambier Park is one of the shadiest stops downtown, and its bandshell hosts free concerts in season. Walk the bike through the park.

On Saturday mornings, the Third Street South Farmers Market runs from 7:30 to 11:30am. Lock up on a side street and browse on foot.

5th Avenue South has no bike lane and plenty of on-street parking. Ride in the travel lane at an easy pace and watch for opening car doors and cars backing out, or use a quieter parallel street like 6th Avenue South.
